The Excuse

If my blog were to get a grade right now, it would get a D for updating. I've been horrible the last few weeks. Not only have I not written here much, I've even put off posting over at 5 Minutes for Parenting a couple of times.

But I have an excuse.

I'm pregnant.

And because I'm me, that also means I'm nauseous all day every day until I reach the end of the first trimester (which should happen in roughly 24 days, not that anyone's counting). And nausea isn't the best muse.

I also came down with a killer cold last week, one of the worst I've ever had in my life. And since I'm in my first trimester, I can't take any medicine. Breathing, which I hear is important, has become my new daily focus, consuming all my time and energy.

I wanted to pop in here and let you all know because, well, I really love my readers. So many of you have become friends that it felt wrong not to share this joy. (And while it doesn't feel very joyful right now, as I crawl through each day trying to take care of the kids while Corey is one back-to-back business trips, I know deep in my heart that this is joy abundant.) I even got to see the baby's heartbeat at an OB appointment last week, and that was both exciting and reassuring.

I also wanted to tell you that, while I'm not commenting much, I am online a lot, looking for a way to distract myself from the bleh. I'm praying and laughing and thinking and encouraged because of you and your posts. Thank you.

And now, I'm off to my regular perch on the couch, where I will blow my nose and try to entertain Teyla and Connor without actually doing anything. Maybe I will teach them the Quiet Game. That's also a hit, right?

  1. I hope you feel better soon, all-around. Morning sickness is one of those burdens made worse when you are fighting off a cold.

I am really, really happy for you and for your family.

  3. Congratulations!! Sorry to hear about the sickness, though. Does it really get worse with each new child?

  4. Congrats! I hope you feel better soon, the bugs floating around are awful!

  5. Woohoo! A new baby! Can't wait to be tortured, I mean blessed with more adorable pictures!!

I so feel for you and your feeling cruddy. Except if it only lasts the first trimester, I'm not toooooo empathetic. Seeing as how I threw up for 20 weeks with baby #1 and 24 weeks with baby #2. But I do hope it passes quickly!

Oh, my. Teyla at 2 1/2 and a baby. Eat. Your. Wheaties!

  6. Congratulations! For the new baby bit, not the morning sickness bit. That was one of the main factors that made me decide I wanted to stop with two children. (Actually, I had initially decided I wanted to stop with one, but God had other ideas.) NO FUN AT ALL. I will be praying for you, and for this new little life growing inside you (and incidentally making you miserable while he or she is at it)!

  11. This is just the sweetest news. I wish I were closer so I could come play with those adorable Love Wellian kids and let their mama sleep it off! Pregnancy being past me, I love, love, love to live vicariously through those of friends. I'm thoroughly stalker excited for you! Thanks for letting us share the joy.

  12. Oh my goodness, how exciting! I was pregnant right along with your Teyla pregnancy, so it feels a bit odd not to be pregnant as well, WITH YOU! :) But our fam is complete with 4 - so I'll just give ya a hearty CONGRATULATIONS and I'm so excited for you - your family and that sweet new little one. Hope the ickies pass soon.

  13. Congrats, Kelly! I know how you feel - morning sickness - ick. McD's breakfast bagels helped me ward off feeling too bad (it was better when I was eating). In no time, you'll forget all about those feelings!

Funny note: The word verification to post this comment is "BULEC" sounds like the sound you make when you're sick. Hee hee.

  15. Congratulations! How exciting...or it will be when you aren't sick any more. You deserve to go easy, but I do miss your updates. We'll be waiting when you get back.

PS. A variation on the quiet game is mum ball. You toss a ball randomly to any person and if you talk or miss it--you're out. (Works on hand eye coordination, too.) The little one might be too young yet.

I was always so, so sick (usually until 18-20 weeks) so you have my sympathy and my prayers. I'll even count down the days with you! Hang in there, friend.

  27. YAAY! Congratulations :)

And at least you have a very good excuse for not posting. I have no such excuse. Which is just as well...I may now be the age my mother was when I was born, but that doesn't mean I want to do a repeat for the next generation :)
